Data-Backup

Do you know how to backup pc data?

Can you afford to lose your data?! Imagine, you wake up tomorrow and switch on your computer just to see a blank screen. Computer just won’t boot up! Now what do you do?

Virus corrupting your files, Hard Disk failure, Spyware & Trojan attacks, power surge damages – just to name a few. It doesn’t really matter how the data loss happens, the fact is – be prepared to tackle such situations! As the saying goes – “prevention is better than cure”, backup your computer data at regular intervals. Lame excuses like “am too busy to take backups”, “backups are too slow”, “my system hasn’t crashed so far!” etc… will only help you introspect and repent later.  So, be smart and jot down an agenda for backing up important information on your computer.

Data Backup options:

  • Of course, the easiest way to backup your data is to transfer it from your PC/laptop onto  External  Disk Drives.
  • External storage media like CD-RW, DVD-RW
  • USB flash drives (Pen drives) are another option to store small amounts of data. These drives are small and can be carried around easily with your key chain.
  • Store a copy of your data in a secure, remote location for safekeeping, so that in the event of disaster your data is still retrievable. Mozy specializes in such online data backup systems.

Deciding what information to back up is personal. Make a checklist of important items on your computer and include those files in your backup schedule. Here are a few things you might want to start with:

  • Bank related information, account statements and other financial information.
  • Photographs/Videos/Music.
  • Software and patches downloaded from the internet.
  • Microsoft outlook contacts and addresses.
  • Bookmarks from your browser.
  • Your personal files.

All said and done, you also have to check to see if your data backups are successful!

Sometimes, CD/DVD burn process might run into internal issues and the data write would fail. So, make sure you check to see if all your data has been backed-up perfectly.
