High power equipment near the monitor can cause distortion.

Monitor not configured correctly with the video on the system.

Settings incorrect.

Lots more….

Use the following as a guideline to troubleshooting your computer mointor problems:

Connections : One of the first things to do would be to inspect the connection cables. Inspect for physical damage to the cable, also check the pins in your monitor and see if they are bent or broken. Connect the cable to another system and see if the screen comes on.

Screen savers and other power saving settings : Disable all screensaver settings and check the various power saving settings you may have set up.

Environmental Factors causing distortion : Electrical appliances like Radio, TV, even your mobile can some times interfere with screen display! Move your computer slightly away from such electrical sources and try degaussing(if available) the monitor once.

“Click” noises or “Flashing” : If your monitor makes a click noise or flashes several times, it may be because it’s self syncronizing or optimizing it’s display to suite the application display needs. This may not be an issue.

Device Drivers : Check if the right device drivers are installed on your system. If you’ve recently plugged in a video card, see if you have the right/latest driver that supports it. Sometimes this can also cause loss of imagery.

BIOS Settings : Check the BIOS settings. Consult the motherboard manual and see if all your settings are correct.

VideoCard and Monitor compatibility : Check if both are compatible. See if your video card supports the screen resolution properly.

Remove the video card once and see if it fixes the issue.

A very essential part of regular basic computer maintenance.
